TEXT SIZE

2014 Has New Meaning for the Lake

This season, the falling waterline has provided a rare opportunity to explore sights that have been underwater for many years. It's a brand-new Lake Powell and there is so much more to discover and experience. The lake has much more personality this summer and it's all yours to explore!

The lower water levels have also resulted in many more beaches. These beaches have been underwater for years and are providing much more private space for houseboaters to set up their camp as well as places to stop for the day and explore. There's nothing like s'mores on the beaches of Lake Powell. You just can't beat it!

For the fishermen and fisherwomen out there, we've got great news for you! Fishing is the best here at Lake Powell it has been since the late 1970's. WOW! It's more like catching than fishing! So, what are you waiting for? Learn more about fishing at Lake Powell.

If Lake Powell were a very tall building - at full pool – we are 565’ deep or 46 stories deep. At our current elevation we are 465’ deep or 38 stories deep. The lake levels are really only down 8 stories down.

Clear Creek Canyon,

Cathedral in the Desert

Anasazi Canyon

A gorgeous arch that looks as if someone had scooped a 100-foot dip from a brick of cinnamon ice cream. You can drive a speedboat through its vaulted entrance. If you look upward, an oval opening rings the top of this domed depression forming a gaping skylight in the overhead rock. What at first looked like a dimpled cave is actually an alcove arch, a runoff-carved natural bridge in the Navajo sandstone.

Five years ago, this phenomenon of nature would have lain unseen, buried beneath the waters of Lake Powell. Now you can float in its grandeur. This arch is not even on any maps.

Rock Creek Canyon, Middle Rock Creek Canyon and Dry Rock Creek Canyon are located near Buoy 36. Each offers great beaches for anchoring, fantastic fishing and a breathtaking sunset or sunrise against the colored towering buttes. In this area, you'll find several small arches and caves. In fact, you can drive your PWC or small powerboat into one particular cave in the back of Rock Creek Canyon.

This is a three-sided grotto that river runners considered to be one of the most hallowed havens of Glen Canyon. For years, motorboats have passed over the top of this church-worthy spot, not knowing what lay below. This year you can cruise in there and enjoy this fantastic grotto with a water fall the runs year round.

From the Bullfrog Marina area, travel downlake approximately 30 miles to the “Escalante Arm -Buoy 69”, then proceed to Clear Creek Canyon (about 2 miles). From the Wahweap Marina area, travel uplake about 70 miles to the “Escalante Arm Buoy 69”, then proceed to Clear Creek Canyon (about 2 miles). To get to the Cathedral, follow the canyon to its end. Near the end you will notice a narrow passage that winds back and forth. After making the switchbacks you'll arrive at the end.

This is an awesome double arch that can only be seen at these low water levels, again not on any map.

Anasazi Canyon is located at Buoy 52 - This canyon offers an excellent hike. There is a small waterfall for you to enjoy at the back of the canyon, which is about a 45-minute hike one way. Anasazi Canyon is a long eerie gorge which contains great splotches of colorful lichen and desert varnish.
