What is the Castle Rock Cut ?

The Castle Rock cut is shortcut from Wahweap Bay to the main channel of the lake. Depending on water levels, the cut can either be open or closed (due to dangerously shallow waters for boats). In 2008, the National Park Service completed an excavation of Castle Rock Cut that lowered the depth to approximately 3,610 feet in elevation. As of July 14, 2011 water levels are at 3,657.41 feet, the highest it has been in the month of July in the past decade. See our homepage for the current status of the cut.

Lake Powell Resorts & Marinas houseboats feature smoke free interiors. Ashtrays are provided for those guests who wish to smoke outside the cabin. Guests are encouraged to use the ashtrays rather than dispose of debris in the lake or on the shore.

Because Lake Powell spans two states - Arizona and Utah - there are two online sites we recommend you visit for this information: Utah Division of Wildlife Resources and Arizona Game and Fishing Department.

How big is the lake?

Lake Powell is 186 miles long and has almost 2,000 miles of shoreline - longer than the entire west coast of the U.S.A.! There are 96 major canyons, some of which are 15 to 20 miles in length.

Scheduled service to Page, AZ and Wahweap Marina is available from Phoenix and Denver via Great Lakes Airlines. There are private landing strips at Page,AZ, Bullfrog, Utah, and Halls Crossing, Utah.

Lots! At Lake Powell, there's an incredibly diverse range of activities, ranging from the most supremely relaxing to the outrageously thrilling. There's houseboating, boat tours, fabulous meals, wakeboarding, waterskiing, dinner cruises, hiking, fishing and lounging by the pool. No one should miss Rainbow Bridge National Monument - the largest natural stone bridge in the world. There are Jeep and Hummer tours of Antelope and Secret Canyons, horseback riding and scenic tours. Only at Lake Powell will you find hundreds of secluded beaches that become your own private escape.

What are some of the rules at Lake Powell?

If you take normal precautions and reasonable care, you'll have a safe and memorable vacation. Remember, you're on the water so life jackets are important, especially for little ones (children under 12 must wear their life jackets at all times if on a boat or the exterior of a houseboat). Cliff jumping and cliff diving is prohibited within the boundaries of Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, including Lake Powell and its tributaries. Remember, you are in a national park area, protect and preserve this place for future generations to enjoy!

What are the fees for enjoying the lake?

National Park Service fee information is available online at http://www.nps.gov/glca/planyourvisit/entrance-fee.htm. The funds collected from entrance fees stay within the park and are used to enhance the experience of visiting the lake.
