Green Thread® Environmental Program

discover_greenthread1.gif

At ARAMARK Parks and Destinations, we have a deep respect for and commitment to protecting and improving the environment. We work to reduce our environmental footprint while delivering exceptional operational results. We also offer expertise and practical solutions to our clients to help them reduce their environmental impacts. Throughout our corporation, we develop and implement long-term environmental stewardship programs and policies within the areas of sustainable food; responsible procurement; green buildings; energy and water conservation; transportation; and waste stream management. We call these programs and policies Green Thread® as they weave throughout our business operations every day!

"The ability to meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs"... is how ARAMARK defines sustainability.

What is Green Thread®?

Green Thread® is an environmental management system (EMS) designed to help regulate what we buy, how we use energy, how we dispose of chemicals, and so on. It deals with what are known as "aspects and impacts", such as fueling a boat, turning on a light switch, buying food for the restaurants.

Green Thread® prepares us for our ISO 14001 certification. It is a comprehensive EMS aimed at continual improvement - not perfection - but a commitment to making change in our line of business that helps conserve energy and lowers our environmental footprint.

Green Thread® is everywhere. "A green thread in everything we do."

Trash Tracker Program

Trash Tracker Program is a joint program between the National Park Service and ARAMARK Lake Powell Resorts & Marinas. 24 trips lasting 5-7 days April - November. ARAMARK donates houseboat, powerboat, barge, fuel, trash receptacles, and captains for the boats. National Park Service coordinates the volunteers for each trip. Program averages 50,000 lbs of trash picked up off the shores of Lake Powell each year. Find out more information at: http://www.nps.gov/glca/supportyourpark/trashtracker.htm

Environmentally-Friendly Lake Powell Vacation Tips

You can help us meet our environmental goals by following these tips on your Lake Powell vacation:

  • Secure loose items on boat decks and shores: Much of the trash in the lake has been blown off of houseboat decks and beaches by the winds at Lake Powell that can reach 70 mph.
  • Properly dispose trash and recyclables: Bins have been provided at launch ramps, lodge facilities and campsites for your convenience. It is illegal to burn trash or to dispose of trash in the lake.
  • Keep golf balls out of the lake: Use designated golfing facilities rather than hitting golf balls into the lake.
  • Use appropriate facilities for waste: Use portable toilets when camping to reduce the chance of impairing water quality with improperly disposed waste.
  • Don't carve or paint on rocks: Carving or spray painting rocks is graffiti and is illegal within the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area.
  • Leave fireworks at home: Fireworks are illegal within national parks. The chemicals can harm the water quality and ecosystem of the lake.
  • Cleanup after yourself and others: Practice 'leave no trace' by taking everything you brought to Lake Powell back out with you when you leave. To help leave the area cleaner than you found it, take an empty trash bag on shore excursions to remove trash left behind by other visitors.
