Lake Powell Resorts & Marinas Commemorates Rainbow Bridge Centennial with Special Package, Tours

PAGE, Ariz. – May 18, 2010 – To commemorate the centennial anniversary of Rainbow Bridge becoming a national monument in 1910, Lake Powell Resorts & Marinas is offering travelers a special travel package, guided tours, and historic memorabilia throughout the 2010 season.

The Rainbow Bridge Centennial Package* includes a two-night stay in a traditional room at Lake Powell Resort, two tickets on the Rainbow Bridge boat cruise and daily breakfast for two. Guests will also receive special memorabilia, including a book on the history of Rainbow Bridge and a Rainbow Bridge Centennial Commemorative Medallion. Available April 15 through October 31, 2010, the package offers up to 33 percent savings, with prices ranging from $449 to $629, depending on seasonal rates and tour availability.  Promo code: Centennial.

The Rainbow Bridge Cruise, which departs twice daily from Wahweap Marina, allows guests to traverse the crystal blue waters of Lake Powell to Rainbow Bridge. The tour boat docks at the monument and guests can hike the mile-long trail to the bridge, which extends 290 feet into the sky and 275 feet across Bridge Canyon. The tour lasts nearly six hours and departs daily at 7:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Ticket prices are $100 for adults and $72 for children 12 and under.

In 1910, President William Howard Taft created Rainbow Bridge National Monument to set aside 160 acres of its canyon realm to be administered and preserved by the National Park Service.  For more than a century, travelers have been drawn to the awe-inspiring beauty of Rainbow Bridge, one of the world’s largest natural bridges located in the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. Guests can take in the history of Rainbow Bridge throughout the 2010 season with National Park Service-sponsored events, including a guest lecture series, entertainment and art exhibitions.

“It’s an exciting time at the lake, with the centennial anniversary, now is the perfect time to visit Lake Powell and absorb the splendor of Rainbow Bridge,” said David Sloma, vice president of operations for Lake Powell Resorts & Marinas. “Whether travelers want to stay on a houseboat, camp in the RV Park, or enjoy comfortable accommodations at the resort, guests can customize their experience to create the ultimate family-friendly vacation.”
