Fall Bullfrog Fishing Tournament at North Lake Powell Oct 5-7

Update: Due to the Government Shutdown beginning October 1, 2013, the Bullfrog Fishing Tournament has been cancelled. We apologize for any inconveniences this may cause.

BULLFROG, Utah (Sept. 26, 2013) More than 140 fishermen and women are expected to converge at Lake Powell for the annual Fall Bullfrog Bass Open Fishing Tournament on Oct. 5 - 7, 2013. Organized by the Upper Lake Powell Bass Club and Lake Powell Resorts & Marinas, the biannual tournament awards anglers in a wide array of categories including highest total weight of fish caught and largest single fish caught.

“Lake Powell is a year round destination for fishing and the Bullfrog Bass Open truly showcases that,” said Eric Johnson, vice president of operations for ARAMARK Parks and Destinations. “Whether participating in the spring or the upcoming fall tournament, anglers must adjust their strategies based on climate and water temperatures.”

The Bullfrog Open is a team bass fishing tournament. Pairs participating in the tournament will compete for a range of prizes including houseboat rental giveaways worth $5,000, cash prizes and various raffle items from sponsors including Yamamoto. In its nineteenth year, the fall tournament is the last event in the 2013 series. The first, in April, was the largest in nearly a decade attracting 168 people on 84 boats.

The tournament will kick off on Friday, Oct. 5 with a barbecue for participants hosted by Lake Powell Resorts and Marinas. The following day, boats will line up for check in beginning at 4:30 a.m. As part of the check in process, Lake Powell’s maintenance team, who volunteers throughout the event, will inspect each boat’s safety equipment and its wet wells. Following check in, the tournament will begin at 7 a.m. A similar process will be executed on the second day. On Sunday, winners of the contest will be honored with plaques and prizes at an awards ceremony at Anasazi Restaurant.

“Lake Powell’s current water level is lending to some of the best fishing conditions since the 1970s. As a result, we’re expecting a great deal of interest in the upcoming tournament,” said Johnson. “Fall is the best time of year to fish for bass as they become more active as the water temperature cools. Further, they are likely to bite at most any bait pattern due to their increased activity.”

Qualified contestants will receive a special rate of $69 per night at Defiance House Lodge throughout the tournament. The Lodge and Bullfrog Marina offer houseboat, powerboat and water toy rentals, and are open throughout the year. Reservations can be made at www.lakepowell.com.
